U Storm

When fielded, target character die with 3A or less can't be blocked this turn.

What happens if the targeted die gains more than 3A before attacking, is it still unblockable? For instance, could I use a pump global (Pay bolt/fist. Target character die gets +1A.) to increase Storm's target to 4A or more just so I could block that die?

Storm’s ability is triggered when she is fielded. At that point, a target character die must be selected that meets the condition “3A or less”. If that target die maintains this condition, it cannot be blocked.

However, if this condition is no longer met before the Declare Blockers portion of the Attack Step, the target die can now be blocked.

We have received several questions on this ruling, and after further review the previous ruling is rescinded.

Storm's ability is triggered when she is fielded and is resolved immediately. The target die meeting this condition (3A or less) can’t be blocked. If the target die’s Attack value is changed in any way, it is still unblockable.

In comparison, if an ability stated “When fielded, target character die with 3A or less must block this turn”, a persistent effect is created because the application of that ability is dependent on the future game state (in this case whether or not an Attack Step is initiated). Here, if the target die’s Attack value exceeds 3A, before the Declare Blockers portion of the Attack Step, then that die does not have to block.

We apologize for the confusion.
