SR Kang: Rewriting History (MSW 143)

Salutations WKRF!

First off congratulations on the excellent new set! As a TO I've had to field a few questions on the new SR Kang: Rewriting History and I'm hoping you can give us some particular guidance.

Kang: Rewriting History reads:
While Kang is active, the first time each turn one of your dice would be KO'd, rerolled, or spun to a different face by an opposing source, you may instead roll that die. If it shows a character face, it stays in the Field Zone on that face.

First question, I'm assuming Kang's ability protects himself as well correct?

Secondly, there are three "categories of removal" listed above that Kang could potentially protect against or prevent - 1. Dice that would be KO'd (this includes from combat damage correct?) 2. Dice that would be rerolled, and 3. Dice that would be spun to a different face by an opposing source.
Is it safe to say, that for categories 1 & 3 above, Kang for all practical purposes grants that player's active character dice REGENERATE?
(Regenerate: If this character would be KO’d, roll it. If you roll a character face, return it to the field on the rolled face (but not the Attack Zone) and clear all damage from it. Otherwise, it is KO’d and moved to your Prep Area. If a character die successfully Regenerates, it does not trigger any “When KO’d” effects, and any applied modifiers (stat boosts, granted affiliations, etc.) remain.)

Most players seem to be in agreement that for categories 1 & 3 above Kang grants those dice an extra 50/50 second chance shot of staying in the field. There's been some disagreement however, about how to handle category 2 (dice that would be rerolled). Practically, would Kang's reroll simply replace the other reroll, or would it be an additional reroll, should the first reroll fail to roll a character face? For example, Say Player A had the SR Kang active and a Common Colossus: Inferno active as well. Player B has a Sheriff Strange: Isle of Agamotto active, uses and action die and then targets Colossus to be rerolled. Does Kang's ability interrupt Sheriff Strange's ability or do you first finish Strange's ability and then trigger Kang's ability? If it's the second would you trigger Kang's reroll ability regardless of whether Colossus rolled to a character face or to an energy face?

I guess the questions have come up because for categories 1 & 3 above Kang significantly reduces the odds of removal (giving a die a 2nd chance to stick around), but depending on how it is ruled Kang may have no effect on the odds for category 2 (if his reroll just simply replaces another character's reroll).

Thanks for your time. Below are Sheriff Strange: Isle of Agamotto & Colossus: Inferno's abilities.

Sheriff Strange: Isle of Agamotto - While Sheriff Strange is active, when you use an action die, reroll target character die.

Colossus: Inferno - no text

First question, I'm assuming Kang's ability protects himself as well correct?

Correct.

1. Dice that would be KO'd (this includes from combat damage correct?)

Correct.

Is it safe to say, that for categories 1 & 3 above, Kang for all practical purposes grants that player's active character dice REGENERATE?

In reference to a KO, the two abilities are similar, but not identical. The difference is when a Character die with Regenerate is KO’d, it is removed from the Field Zone. At that point the Regenerate ability is initiated and resolved appropriately. With Kang’s ability, the Character die does not leave the Field Zone and the roll occurs before the Character die would be KO’d. This can be considered a ‘KO replacement’ effect. Regenerate has no impact on a Character die being spun to a different face.

Practically, would Kang's reroll simply replace the other reroll, or would it be an additional reroll, should the first reroll fail to roll a character face? Does Kang's ability interrupt Sheriff Strange's ability or do you first finish Strange's ability and then trigger Kang's ability? If it's the second would you trigger Kang's reroll ability regardless of whether Colossus rolled to a character face or to an energy face?

Kang’s ability prevents any impacted Character die from being KO’d, rerolled, or spun, provided that die rolls a character face. If that die rolls a character face, it is not KO’d and no reroll or spinning to a different face will occur. If the die rolls an energy face, it is immediately moved to the Reserve Pool and any pending reroll or spinning abilities on that die would be cancelled.
Also, a Character die removed by Kang’s ability will not trigger any “when KO’d” abilities, covered under the following rule:
Rule 2.5.3 Character dice removed from the Field Zone by rerolling are not considered to be KO’d.
