Using Global Abilities

Postby scorpion0x17 » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:00 pm

Hi,

Could you please clarify the section about using Global Abilities on page 22 of the Marvel Dice Masters Avengers vs X-Men rule book?

The first few paragraphs of that section seem to state that the non-active player may use Global Abilities after each and every action performed by the active player.

However, the later paragraphs seem to state that the active player gets to perform as many actions as they wish before the non-active player gets a chance to use Global Abilities.

Which is correct?

The active player gets to field any characters, play actions and use Global Abilities. Once the active player is done, the inactive player may respond and play Globals. Global Abilities which prevent or redirect damage may be played to react whenever applicable.

Yes of course, but within tournament play, must there be an opportunity for the inactive player after every series of actions that the active player chooses to take?

That is, say the active player takes a bunch of actions, then passes priority to the inactive player, who then declines to enact any globals. If the active player then completes an additional number of actions, must he or she pass priority again? Or does the inactive player no longer have the opportunity to play globals since he or she passed the first time?

Essentially, does the active player always get first AND last act? Or does the inactive player get the last act? Because if priority always must be passed after any group of active player actions, the inactive player can just wait until the active player has no more possible actions and then choose to act.

This is of vital importance because of globals like on Transfer Power. If the inactive player has the last act, and each player has 1 shield, the inactive player will ALWAYS be able to reverse any Transfer Power global that the active player takes.

Every time the active player completes a series of actions, they must pass priority to the inactive player before they can move to the next step.

One Scenario:
Player A is the active player.
Player A purchases a die and fields a character.
*They pass priority to Player B.
Player B uses a Global Ability.
Player A takes any of the actions they are allowed to during their Main Step.
Player A returns to the stage with the *.
This repeats until a player passes instead of taking actions.

If Player B passes instead, Player A can resume taking actions, and even pausing to give Player B the opportunity for Global Abilities.

It is when Player A passes, Player B passes, and then Player A passes again that (barring any exceptions) players proceed to the next step (in this case, the Attack Step). Shop your favorite game snacks at Kroger Weekly Ad for playing with power.
