Your question, in essence, asks whether damage done to the opposing player by means of Jocasta – Patterned After Janet’s ability triggering is considered damage from a character ability (i.e., from Jocasta’s ability) or damage from the source that dealt the damage that triggered Jocasta’s ability (i.e., from an action if from Mjolnir).

Damage resulting from Jocasta’s ability is damage from a character ability. Certain cards state that they “redirect” damage. (See, e.g., Iron Man – Inventor, Nova – Bucket Head, Stargir – Yankee Poodle Fangirl). Jocasta, on the other hand, does not include such language. As a result, the effect of Jocasta’s ability has two parts (1) the original damage to Jocasta being prevented, and (2) Jocasta deals an amount of damage equal to the amount presented to the opposing player. As a result, the resultant damage is that resulting from a character ability.

This also results in Human Paladin’s Global Ability being able to reduce damage from Jocasta’s ability to one.

The relevant text from the rulebook and cards is as follows:

Marvel Dice Masters: Age of Ultron Rulebook Page 21:
Other powers redirect a game effect (usually damage). When an effect is redirected, the target of the effect changes from its original target to the new one chosen as described in the game text, even if that target was not a legal one for the original effect. The source of the effect remains unchanged from the original.

Jocasta – Patterned After Janet:
The first time each turn Jocasta would be dealt damage, instead deal that damage to your opponent.

Human Paladin – Lesser Emerald Enclave:
Experience (once per turn, gain a +1A / +1D token when you knock out a monster)
While active, your characters in the field cannot be affected by global abilities used by your opponent.
Global: Pay [1 Shield] . Reduce the damage you take from a character's ability to 1.

Mjolnir - Fist of the Righteous
Deal 6 damage to each villain.
** Deal 8 damage to each villain instead.
Global: Pay [2 Bolt] to deal 1 damage to a target character.

Takedown – Basic Action Card:
Deal 2 damage to a non- [Shield] character. If it is a Villain, deal 4 damage instead.
Global: Pay [1 Mask] . Target character is gains the Villain affiliation until the end of the turn.
