Effect: Telekinesis. FREE: Choose a character within 3 squares and line of fire. Place that character in an adjacent square.

Does this mean the placed character can be placed in a square adjacent to the character that's using the FREE, or is the placed character placed in a square adjacent to the square they are currently in?

The chosen character is placed in a square adjacent to the one they occupy.
