Mera global and Human Paladin Lesser Emerald Enclave ability

Hi all,

In a game today this situation came up:
I had a Hulk Jade giant lvl1 (6 attack) and a Human Paladin Lesser Emerald Enclave which has the ability:

While active, your characters in the field cannot be affected by global abilities used by your opponent.

If I attack with my Hulk and deal 6 damage, can my opponent use Mera's global:

Global: Pay [1 Mask]. If a character would deal you 5 or more combat damage, it instead deals you 2 combat damage.

... to reduce the damage or not due to Paladin's ability?

Yes, Mera’s Global Ability may be used in this circumstance. Mera’s Global Ability reduces damage to a player—it does not target or affect any character.
