An NPC dice means a die that rolled into the NPC character side, or any NPC die, including those that landed in energy faces?

Pit Fiend – Paragon Fiend’s ability refers to an NPC die, regardless of which face is showing. See viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5948 for a discussion regarding the different types of dice.
