Wave 0 - Starter - Counter Attack

I had an official question regarding how Advanced Cloaking and the Counter Attack Elite talent interact. Incidentally, this could also apply to the Scimitar ship ability as it acts as a built-in Advanced Cloaking.

Scenario:
IRW Khazara equipped with Counter Attack and Advanced Cloaking. Player uses the Counter Attack text as the ship's regular action.
Player's Khazara makes a normal attack and places the auxiliary token to remain cloaked.
Khazara is then attacked, and takes damage to the hull. Player uses Counter Attack text to return fire.

How does this resolve? Does the Khazara remain cloaked or does the cloak token flips to red and cloaking effects end? If so, then what is the point of having both those cards equipped on the same ship? Can the player choose NOT to take a regular attack? Can the player choose NOT to use the free attacks from Counter Attack? If the counter attack effect occurs before the regular attack, are the rules still the same? What if there are multiple free attacks triggered by Counter Attack?

2. Counter Attack may not trigger multiple times during the same round, but a player may choose to not trigger the effect if he wishes (e.g. to use the effect against a ship firing later in the round).

You may choose to not trigger Counter Attack after being attacked. If you do fire back using Counter Attack your ship will flip it's cloak token to the red side and will decloak at the end of the turn.
